Dewalokam, The winner of Best Integrated Farm Award from the Government of Kerala for organic farming being practiced for generations is the ancestral farm of an ancient Syrain Christian family of Kerala.It is a working farm, run on organic and eco principles, The water is heated with solar power, vegetables grown with home-made compost, chickens and goats fed on vegetable waste and methane from the cows manure is recovered to provide gas for cooking.
Bounded by a tranquil river and nature reserve Dewalokm is ideally located in the spice belt of Kerala and has been the center of spices for years. The farm has a rich collection of spices like pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger, turmeric etc.
Dewalokam features 8 spacious comfortable rooms in the main house overlooking the river and forest, 3 traditional rooms set in the forest come with an open air shower in the lovely inner courtyard.
Each room are designed with very simple and sophisticated décor with all modern amenities.
This is a place to truly wind down, swinging in the hammocks dotted between the trees on the estate or floating gently in the freshwater pool else chose from list of activities to full your days on. The activities are endless here including Spice walk, Bamboo rafting, Forest walk, Local school visit, spotting the butterflies and birds in the area, cooking lessons, extraction of honey, milking the cow and many more.
One can also the experience authentic Ayurveda treatments and massages.
The hosts Prof Jose and Sinta both teachers by profession living on the site with their 2 school going sons. Jose would love to take you around the farms and explain the theory of organic farming etc.
It’s a place to experience the warmth of a traditional Kerala family.
